For more information on how missing device commands work, read on:
In order for Lookout Life to successfully locate the device, your phone needs to be powered on and have a data connection (through your carrier or WiFi). If you receive an "Error Connecting" message, one of these requirements may not be in place. After you request a Locate, we will try to contact your device and a Locate command will be queued to run.
Locate and Scream
-
If you request a Locate, you will receive an email when your device is located.
-
Lookout Life does not continually track your phone. A Locate is only performed upon request from your Lookout Life account and will be listed on your Locate Device page after the Locate has been manually run and successfully executed.
Premium Features
It is possible to upgrade to Lookout Life Premium after your device is lost, but this assumes you allowed Lookout Life to be a Device Administrator in order to add Lock and Wipe functionality. If you do initiate a Lock on your phone, the data within will be secure and none of the phone functions can be accessed without the Unlock code.
General Notes
-
If you discontinue your mobile service, it could hinder Lookout Life's ability to connect with your device. However, if your phone is connected to a WiFi signal, even if it has no cell signal, it is possible that the Locate can still go through if and when your phone runs an automatic Anti-malware Scan.
-
If you add another phone with the same phone number to your account, the previous phone may cease to connect to Lookout Life. This means that even if you have queued commands for Locate, Lock, Scream, etc., they will not process.
-
If a new SIM card is placed in the device, your account will automatically be updated with the new phone number. We consider the phone number to be just another setting. The device can be located regardless of if the original SIM card is in it.
-
The presence of a Task Killer (e.g. Advanced Task Killer), Memory Optimizer (e.g. Memory Booster), and/or Battery Saver (e.g. Juice Defender) could prevent Lookout Life from functioning properly. You must remove them or set them to allow Lookout Life to function. Please contact the support department of your particular app if you have trouble doing this.
