If ID Scan determines you’ve been involved in a data breach, then your information is at risk of being used by malicious third parties. In order to prevent them from gaining access to your accounts, we suggest the following courses of action:
- Immediately log on to the breached site or service and change your password. This will prevent hackers from accessing your account. The quicker you do this, the less likely it is that your account will be accessed by a malicious third party.
- Monitor your accounts for any suspicious activity. For example, if your credit card company is involved in a data breach, check daily for any suspicious charges, changes in account information, etc.
- Consider getting an identity protection service that monitors if your email address and other data are being sold online. In addition, consider getting a service that actively monitors future breaches that you’re involved with.
